Common questions

How wide is a box truck inside?+

About 92 inches for a 96-inch-wide body, which is common up to 18 feet. About 97 inches for a 102-inch-wide body, which is common on 20 to 26 ft trucks. Real bodies vary by an inch or two, so measure the one you are buying.

Can you fit a bed across a box truck?+

Usually, yes. A 92-inch-wide box is about 90 inches wide after insulation and paneling, which fits an 80-inch queen mattress across the truck with room to spare.

Do these numbers match a U-Haul?+

Not exactly. U-Haul trucks have a shelf over the cab and their own published sizes. They are on the U-Haul truck dimensions page.

How much space do insulation and paneling take?+

The finished figures on this page allow about 1 inch per surface: each side wall, the ceiling, the floor, and the front wall. The rear is the door. A cold-climate build with thicker insulation takes more. In the planner you can choose the build-out level, or enter your own measurements.
